Technology
For our students, we have a computer lab furnished with 32 computers, including the teacher’s station. School-wide internet access is available, and includes the computers in the student classrooms, library, cafeteria, and school and administrative offices. Teachers have available two mobile carts which house lap tops, that are used by students within the classroom setting. The use of these laptops affords students added accessibility to the Internet when researching a special project or subject in the classroom. These lap tops serve as portable computer labs for our students. Most recent additions to technology are the installation of StarBoards, projectors, and drop-down screens in all classrooms.
An ongoing goal of Our Lady of Mercy School is to keep families informed about all aspects of the school program, using as many media sources as we have available. We have moved into the electronic age with our convenient Internet web site for communications. Our expanded electronic resources include the features which are described below:
Edline - An Internet-based resource that allows families to establish their own accounts that will provide access to their students’ grades. Families of students in grades 2 through 8 use this resource. One account can be used to access the information for one or more children in our school and any other school using Edline. Families receive an activation code, which is used one time as the account is activated. Families are strongly encouraged to make full use of this service to keep informed about student progress. Students are also issued a code, which allows them access to their account, and allows them to monitor their progress as well.
School Reach - A means of sending recorded messages and e-mails from the school and/or school organizations for reminders and important information. This service can also be used in emergency situations to contact families. Calls are made in the order they are listed, until a live answer is received. Email addresses may also be listed, and should there be an emergency, a message can be sent to those addresses as well.
http://www.olomschool.org/ - The MERCY web site is our most valuable tool to inform our parents and prospective families. Future plans include expansion of the availability of forms which can be submitted online by Our Lady of Mercy School parents. Some of the electronic forms we currently use are for the re-registration process, and those to request information about our school, or an alumni update.
