Hands & Hearts of Mercy

“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”
Teresa of Avila

One piece of our mission at Our Lady of Mercy is Service, and as parents of students at our school and as members of the Parish, we have witnessed the Servant heart of our community.  While we all serve in so many ways, the challenge of discipleship also calls us to know the poor and be with them. With that in mind, we have been given the blessing of the Parish to organize service opportunities for our families to do just that, be with the poor and those most in need. We will be the “Hands and Hearts of Mercy” within our parish, our school as well as the greater Baton Rouge Community.

We have four specific opportunities scheduled between now and Christmas. But there will be others and we will continually send out information as opportunities arise.  Our first will be on September 28th at the Bishop Ott Sweet Dreams Shelter. Families will sign up to bring a meal and serve and visit with the people who eat at the Shelter. The other organization we will be working with is Open Air Ministries, we are scheduled for October 20th, November 17th & December 15th.  This ministry serves the Homeless in Baton Rouge on Sundays outside of St. Vincent DePaul. The families who volunteer will be spending an hour of play time with the children (visiting, playing games, reading, etc.).  Sign up HERE.
